Why Apple Rules the Media World
I know Apple has a grip on the digital music industry, and it even has television shows and movies that you can download for a small price in its iTunes Music Store. I personally stay clear of these, because I don’t believe in paying for music or video with DRM restrictions. For the masses, Apple has set up their iTunes Music Store to be almost synonymous with multimedia downloads, but what else does it have for the rest of us? Well, just for kicks today, I decided to take a look at the iTunes Music Store to see what else Apple has up its sleeve with the shipping of the Apple TV starting today. The WSJ’s review on it is here.

Just a quick glance into the Podcast section of the store revealed lots of free content. Not only is the content free, but it is also good content. I am not just talking about amateurs submitting their views on life or videos of themselves lip syncing to the latest pop songs. These are full videos and audio from major publishers and major networks. Everyone should take a look if they have a chance. Couple the free content in the iTunes Music Store with an iPod and a long drive somewhere, and you’ve got your books on tape. If you even want to watch a video on the road, I won’t judge you. Just stay away from me.
Apple was the first company to take digital music to the next level with the iPod, but they have gone so much further now with video and audio content from huge networks and publishers. It has entrenched itself into the world of digital multimedia and isn’t going anywhere for a while.
