This website has gone through many revisions since college but always maintained a spirit of fun. This is where I get to speak my mind, as a child would, spilling my thoughts without filtering them. I'm not likely to say anything profound or moving, but hopefully someone gets some entertainment value out of my ramblings.
I'm just your average working class male, although I've held the title Boyfriend of the Year for many years running, and even received the self-assigned title of World's Strongest Billionaire. I enjoy good beer, good food, and good company.
Most people don’t realize how much I follow sports, possibly because I don’t talk about it much. That’s mostly due to the fact that most of my friends aren’t as interested as I am in sports. Today I’d like to write about sports.
Every year, when the men’s basketball tournament happens, productivity drops across in the nation to a total of millions of dollars. I’d like to be part of that productivity drop and share with the few of my readers that are interested in the NCAA tournament my views on this whole tournament.
Let’s start off with UCLA, my team. The have a phenomenal team, but they are lacking in size with the biggest guy on the team being Lorenzo Mata at 6′9″, a tiny man by basketball center standards. I expect them to win their bracket, only running into problems with teams with large center. Unfortunately, this is Florida again this year if they make it to the finals. Then it will be a face off of the ugly centers.
I picked up The Fratellis’ album Costello Music after seeing the iPod ads. The Fratellis remind me slightly of The Strokes, but much less aloof in their music presence. I don’t know exactly how to classify this album. I would have to call it Swing Rock. The description makes it sound like multiple styles of music thrown together haphazardly, but the album is well put together. It has a bright, upbeat sound. The album definitely makes you want to wear and iPod, be a black silhouette, and dance around like a maniac on a brightly colored background. That Steve Jobs sure knows how to make music players and downloadable music interesting.
The Vines’ Vision Valley is an album I first heard while playing Wii Bowling at Barrington. We turned on a black light and put on this CD and it was like Rock n’ Bowl. When The tunes stuck in my head and I picked it up two days later. What can I say about the sound of this album? When The Vines first came onto the scene, I called them The Beatles But With More Rock. This album holds up to that sound, a great compilation, well balanced with fast rhythms as well as slower rock ballads. The only down side to this album is that it is very short. One way of a trip to work lets me play this album through once completely and halfway through again.
Although I rave about Apple and its products, I never tell people to switch over to Macs. The reason, while I still think the Mac interface is better, is it’s different. People are afraid of what is different and get frustrated easily. People have to be willing to make the decision to leave Windows behind. Now, thanks to recent software releases, I can now bring the only great thing about Windows to the world of Apple. That’s right. Apples for design. Linux for servers. Windows for Solitaire.
It’s been about a week since the launch of Michelle’s website. She has been creeping up in the polls, making her mark on on the web as “The Most Famous Michelle Woo in the World” each and every day. In fact, in the few days that I have been tracking her website stats, she has already caught up with me, a veteran in the web game.
In an effort to better myself, I have decided to give up soda and fast food for a month. I haven’t gained weight in a long time, but I feel sluggish most of the time, so this is a good start for me to feel better. My exercise routine is still up for grabs at this point, but I think I will try to better myself at Wii Bowling. That should give me a fair amount of exercise, even if it’s only my right arm.
In completely different news, everyone should read The Consumerist. It’s a website dedicated to protecting the little people by calling out the big shots and all their mistakes. I’ve read some great articles on Sprint, Quizno’s, and HP. It’s a great idea to make the big companies and industries straighten up and treat customers right, but for me it’s an opportunity to call them up, bring up every single thing they have done wrong, and try to get free stuff out of them.
Bad News: Spencer and Vivian are no longer a couple. Michelle and I challenged them to Wii bowling and the losers had to break up. Vivian was fighting for the relationship with strikes and spares across the scoreboard. Spencer looked like he didn’t care with his open frames everywhere.
Good News: I got a new high score in Wii bowling the next morning.
Since I’ve been working on Michelle’s site lately, I have also been playing with my own website as well, mostly playing with appearance. I’ve moved a few things around, so scroll all the way to the bottom to make sure you see everything.
I moved my gallery onto Picasa Web Albums instead of hosting it myself. There is also the link on the bottom for later if you guys want to look at it after this post is gone. There is supposed to be an RSS feed of random albums on my sidebar, underneath where it says Random Picasa Album, but as soon as I added it Google changed the way its RSS feed works.
A friend of mine is going whale watching. That inspired me to go Discovery Channel on you people and teach you something new. People go to Sea World to see Shamu perform tricks and respond to the commands of a trainer. They’re thinking, I’d like to keep one of these if I had the room. What people fail to see is that these animals are very aptly named. They are killing machines.
Often called the wolves of the sea, Killer Whales hunt in packs. During the annual migration of Gray Whales, which many of you have probably seen on a whale watching trip, mothers and calves make the journey behind the rest of the pod, because the calves can’t keep up. Killer whales take advantage of the situation, swimming between the mother and calf, separating the two. Then the Killer Whales will repeatedly jump out of the water, throwing their bodies onto the calf, trying to drown it. The mother Gray Whale does her best to support the weight of the calf as it tires, but after a few hours, the Killer Whales have made their kill and the mother has to continue on her migration. There is an article about it here.
