Glass Ceilings: An Explanation?
This article has been surfaced on the web in the past couple of days. It notes that the average salary for a woman is 80% of her male counterpart’s salary. I’ve heard various explanations for this gap in salaries, but it makes sense that companies are not willing to put down as large an investment on an employee that may not be around later due to decisions such as marriage and motherhood. Althought not stated in the article, I think men are more likely to hang around as a career is so important in defining a man. Decisions like motherhood are personal choices that employers cannot predict. I suppose the lower pay rate is an employer’s way of dealing with this variable. The fact that variables exist shows that men and women are not equal. That being the case, they should not be treated as such. I’ll leave it at that and see what you guys think.

not to mention their monthly mood swings, which can add stress and animosity to the workplace if the woman is especially PMSing.
Trust me, I worked at CDP in an office with 4 women and 2 men, and their periods were all synchronized. 2nd or 3rd week of the month, man. It was hell, with gossiping, yelling, power trips, power plays, catty remarks.. the other guy and I were going nuts!
