I Hate Snakes

Written by m@ on May 3, 2007 – 4:58 pm

I came home late last night, so I didn’t even get a chance to talk to my parents. This morning my dad poked his head into my room and asked, “Did you get the snake?” What kind of a question is that to ask a person, who is still half awake? My mind began to race. Did he find a snake in my room? Maybe they closed the room of my door to trap a snake and I was too tired to notice a note they left me. Was I supposed to catch a snake in the house? Well apparently he was just asking me if I saw the dead snake at the edge of our driveway last night. It was still in our driveway this morning, so my dad took the garden hosed and washed it down to the sidewalk. Can you imagine going for a walk, not paying attention, and then seeing this?

We just left it there and went to work. I wonder if it will still be there when we get home from work. Today is the day our gardener comes. Maybe he will remove it, or maybe he will mow around it. All I know is that I’m not removing it.

How did the dead snake wind up on your driveway? Someone must not like you huh?

Or it fell from a plane? Sue New Line Cinema for dropping dead snakes on your driveway.

There are snakes all over the area behind my house. We have rattlesnakes too. It’s rare to see anything near the house though. There are snakes, scorpions, lizards, raccoons, possums, hawks, rabbits, and skunks. My house is like a wildlife preserve.

It was also still there when I got home today. Apparently no one wants to touch it.

So I was sharing your snake story with my mom and did you know….

    1) Snakes are very resilient. Sometimes they appear dead but snap back to life a while later..this can be days later.

    2) If the snake that is dead is a male, the female will soon appear in search of the male.

Okay, just wanted to share. In other words, get someone to pick up that darn snake and dispose of it.

    From Wikipedia:

It is also important to avoid snakes that appear to be dead, as some species will actually rollover on their backs and stick out their tongue to fool potential threats. A snake’s detached head can immediately reflex and potentially bite. The bite can induce just as bad an effect as a live snake bite.[7]

It’s dead. There were ants on it. We hosed it down the driveway. Then my dad used some sort of long stick to put it into a trashcan. We wouldn’t have even bothered, but on two separate occasions while we were either leaving or coming home, our neighbors pointed out to us that we had a snake there. We couldn’t seem irresponsible so we had to get it out of there.

Some animal keeps tipping the trash over and pulling the snake out of the trash can! It’s not even taking the snake away. It just pulls it out onto the lawn.
