Bent Over by Billy Gates Again
So because all major CMS and accounting applications are run on Windows, I have been forced to run Windows. I was doing fine running Windows inside of OS X using Parallels for my own office use, but as the person in charge of IT, I have to be able to test things for other users. The only viable way to do this is to use a laptop running Windows like everyone else.
Why does every application window look different in Windows? There is absolutely no uniformity in the way applications look! I’m going to be so slow on my computer for the next couple of weeks. If anyone has any recommendations for the following applications, I am definitely looking for help.
1. IM Client. Functionality is not the problem, but the ones that works well are so bulky. I’m currently using Pidgin, and I am not a fan Trillian.
2. File/Folder Launcher. I am using Launchy to launch my applications much quicker, but I need to get into the same files and folders over and over during the work day. I use a program called DragThing on my Mac, which gives me a sliding drawer that closes down to a tab so I can pull up multiple files and folders quickly.
3. GTD. I need a program that will give me to do lists, but more powerful than just that. I need to be able to classify the items, set start dates, and create due dates as well.
I’m sure I need a whole lot more, bu these are the basic things I need to start working efficiently. Save me from my misery.
