It’s Magic Time, Bitches!

Written by m@ on May 11, 2008 – 9:58 pm

This weekend was our weekend to visit the famous Magic Castle. For those of you that have not been, I highly recommend going at least once in your life. You get to get dressed up and pretend like you have a little bit of class for a change. Some people say once you’ve been there, it’s all the same, but I really enjoy the acts these performers put together and am fascinated by the art form. I’d go a couple times a year if someone else took the check.

We started out with some mind reading and mind control by Jheff. Both Ariane and Michelle got to be part of the performance and have their minds read. We grabbed a couple drinks at a bar and Tony Picasso did some incredible up close magic. He had eleven pairs of our eyes watching him the whole time, and he did some astonishing things. While they both did some incredible things, I’m surprised at the poor state of their websites. I think I could make a living doing websites for magicians. The last thing we went to see before dinner was Irma, the piano-playing ghost, who takes requests. We tried to stump her with everything from Super Mario Brothers, A-Team, Star Wars, Radiohead, Journey, but what really amazed us was when she started playing 50 Cent’s In Da Club.

Heineken Mini Keg

Written by m@ on April 28, 2008 – 10:50 am

This weekend I was handed a brilliant gift, an almost full Heineken Keg. Knowing that gifts like these only come once in a while, I invited some friends over to share in this gift from the heavens. Let me tell you something about these mini kegs. They suck. You have to hold the nozzle down just right or you get tons of foam. Even if you hold down the nozzle just right, you can’t dole out cup after cup of beer, because the damn thing apparently needs a rest period or it gives you more foam.

Like Being a Rock Star, But Without the STDs

Written by m@ on April 20, 2008 – 11:25 am

Take that, you doubters! First I sang my way to a 99% score on Radiohead’s Creep. Then I played drums and sang to the same song without getting booed off the stage. Finally, Michelle and I accomplished what everyone told us would be impossible. We beat a song on medium level in Rock Band. Despite overwhelming odds against us (Michelle hurt her hand drumming), we triumphed in the rock star arena. I feel like I could play an actual instrument on stage in front of thousands of people, but then I remember this is just a video game. Believing that I am a true rock star is as much of a twisted dream as people that play World of Warcraft thinking they can be part of an army of mythical creatures, roaming virtual worlds.

Still, I have a new found love for Rock Band. Despite the awkwardness of not being like the real instruments, it’s a game that pumps you up so much that it’s really recommended that you don’t play within thirty minutes of your bed time. Showers are also recommended after intense rock sessions. With some practice my skills will increase, and I will say to all those people who doubt me, “Whatever, man. I’ll kick your ass…online.”

Don’t Stop Believin’ in Good Music

Written by m@ on April 6, 2008 – 9:19 pm

This weekend was Carissa’s birthday celebration. It started out at Musha. I have been to this place far too many times, but it never disappoints. It’s always as exciting every time they turn off the restaurant lights and the waiters sing happy birthday.

Another Birthday Weekend

Written by m@ on January 20, 2008 – 6:43 pm

There are lots of birthdays in the December and January months. This weekend was no different. We went out to celebrate Annie’s and Tim’s birthdays. We started out at Barney’s for some good beer and bar food. Afterwards we met up with Tim at the ice skating rink for some broomballing. It’s like being in high school church group all over again. It was a lot of fun, but all of us were bitching about how late we stayed out. We’re all getting older.

Another Birthday Celebration

Written by m@ on January 14, 2008 – 10:05 am

This Saturday Ariane had her birthday celebration at The Edison. I am still recovering from my cold, so I refrained from drinking, unlike some other people who couldn’t make it out. Just like I thought, the night totally sucked being sober. Just kidding. It was cool getting out to see people after being couped up for a while. The birthday girl swears a lot when she’s drunk.

2008: Going to be Great

Written by m@ on January 1, 2008 – 10:33 pm

Another New Year’s Eve has come and gone. Here is the quick recap with some pictures. This one was spent at Sharkeez in Newport Beach. Jenny was serving up the drinks and avoiding shots with drunken patrons. We were drinking in the new year. We got lost on the way back home after Chase went running after Krystal, wandered into a crappy house party where the beer sucked, but we made it home safe and sound.
